Marshmallow

Marshmallows are sweet and have a fluffy texture. Basic ingredients of marshmallows are gelatin, sugar, corn syrup and water. You can add any color and flavor essence of your choice while making this amazing dessert. Kids love to eat marshmallows because of their soft and spongy texture. People also have them with coffee, shakes, hot chocolate and with desserts. Toasted marshmallows are also very famous because of their amazing taste. In United Kingdom, North America and New Zealand roasting and toasting marshmallows is very common.

Marshmallow Ingredients:

Water to dissolve Gelatin                                                             ½ Cup

Sugar                                                                                                2 Cups

Corn Starch for dusting                                                                ½ Cup

Powdered Sugar for dusting                                                        ½ Cup

Water to make Sugar Syrup                                                         ½ Cup

Corn Syrup                                                                                      ½ Cup

Salt                                                                                                   ½ tsp

Gelatin                                                                                             3 tbsp

Method:

Pour 3 tbsp of gelatin into 1/2 cup of cold water. Take it aside for 4 – 5 minutes to bloom. Take 2 cups of sugar in a medium sauce pan and add a half cup of light corn syrup. Also add salt and a half cup of water in it. Mix all these ingredients well and cook them to bring a rolling boil. Now add this super hot sugar syrup into the bloomed gelatin while stirring. Whip it for 8 – 10 minutes so that it becomes thick, fluffy and marshmallow like. At this stage you can also add any flavor or food coloring into it.

Now take a pan, grease it with butter and pour all the marshmallow batter into the pan. Use a spatula to spread the batter nice and evenly. Cover it with a plastic sheet and leave it at least for 6 hours to set. Once your marshmallows are all set up, Dust a work surface with half corn starch and half powdered sugar. Pop out the fluffy marshmallow from the pan and put it over the dusted surface. Now dust corn starch and powdered sugar mixture over the top of the marshmallow. Slice marshmallows with a greased knife and that’s it.
