Potato Samosa Recipe

Potato Samosa is one of the most famous snacks in the Asian countries. It is available everywhere in Pakistan and India. Usually people love to eat potato samosa on tea time. It is also the most favorite rainy season snack. To make it more yummy and delicious, peas are also added in the potato stuffing. Potato Samosa can easily be made at home with just few ingredients. It hardly takes 30 minutes for the whole preparation. They are best served hot with green chatni or tomato ketchup. Here is the easiest recipe to make the perfect potato samosa.

Ingredients:

For Samosa Dough:

All-Purpose Flour:                                            1 Cup

Oil/Ghee:                                                            ¼ Cup

Salt:                                                                     ½ tsp

Cumin Seeds:                                                     1 tsp

Water:                                                                 to knead dough

For Stuffing:

Potato (Boiled/Mashed):                                 2

Peas (Boiled):                                                    ½ Cup

Ginger Paste:                                                    1 tsp.

Garlic Paste:                                                      1 tsp.

Green Chili (Finely Chopped):                        2 – 3

Fresh Coriander (Finely Chopped):              2 tbsp.

Red Chili Flakes:                                              ½ tsp.

Red Chili Powder:                                            ½ tsp.

Turmeric Powder:                                            ¼ tsp.

Salt:                                                                     ½ tsp.

Cumin seeds:                                                     1 tsp.

Oil:                                                                       ¼ cup

Potato Samosa

Method:

Kneading the Dough:

Take all-purpose flour in a bowl and add salt and cumin seeds in it. Mix it well with the help of your hands. Now add oil/ghee in the flour and rub it with your palms to make a flour and oil crumble. Now slowly add water and keep mixing it with your hand to make a smooth non-sticky dough. Cover it and keep it aside on room temperature for 15 – 20 minutes.

Making Potato Stuffing:

Take a pan and heat up oil in it. Add cumin seeds then add ginger garlic paste, red chili powder, red chili flakes, Salt and turmeric powder. Add 1 tbsp. water and cook on medium flame for 3 – 4 minutes. Keep stirring. Now add mashed potatoes and boiled peas. Mix them well with all the spices. In the end, add fresh coriander and green chili. Turn off the flame and keep it aside to cool down on room temperature.

Making Potato Samosa:

Take the samosa dough and divide it into equal balls of 2 inch diameter. Now roll out the dough ball on a flat surface to give it a round shape. Now cut it into two equal halves with the help of a knife. Take one half and fold it into a cone shape with your hand. Hold it properly so that it doesn’t open. Use a spoon to fill it with the potato stuffing. Now press the top corners together to seal your samosa. Repeat this process with all dough balls.

Now heat up the oil in a deep wok and fry samosas on medium low flame. Keep them stirring to avoid burning. Fry them until light golden in color. Take the samosas out from the oil and put them on a tissue paper to drain the excess oil. Serve them hot with green chatni, yogurt raita or with tomato ketchup.
