Death by Chocolate Cake with Cherries on Top

Who doesn’t like a cake full of chocolate? I am also fond of all types of chocolates. Especially, when chocolates are used to make delicious chocolaty cakes. Death by Chocolate Cake is the most favorite cake of people who are chocolate lovers. People indulge in its sweet and chocolaty taste. This heavenly death by chocolate cake is an amalgamation of chocolate ganache, chocolate frosting, chocolate sponge, chocolate chips, and chocolaty whipping cream. It’s moist and soft cake sponge is soaked with chocolaty milk and it makes your taste buds happy. Let’s try the easiest recipe of this worldwide famous death by chocolate cake at home.


For Cake Sponge:

Flour                                        1 cup

Cocoa Powder                        1/3 cup

Ground Sugar                         1/2 cup

Melted Butter                         ½ cup

Baking powder                       1 teaspoon

Baking Soda                           ½ tsp

Milk                                         ½ cup

Eggs                                        3

For Ganaché:

Fresh Cream                            ½ Cup

Chocolate Chips                      1 Cup

For Cake Decoration:

Cocoa Powder                        2 tbsp.

Whipped Cream                      1 Cup

Mix Canned Fruits                  1 Cup

Choco Balls                             8 – 12

Cherries                                   8 – 12

Milk with 1 tbsp. (Coco powder dissolved in it)        1 Cup

Making Chocolate Sponge:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Butter a pan, dust it with some flour and set aside. Whisk together ground sugar and melted butter to make a fluffy batter. Now add eggs one by one and keep beating it to bring a smooth consistency. Now take another bowl and sift together flour, coco powder, baking powder and baking soda to eliminate any lumps and impurities. Fold this flour mixture into the batter. Don’t whisk it at this stage.

Also add milk to bring a smooth consistency. Pour the batter into the pan. Bake in the oven for 25 – 30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Set the cake sponge aside and let it cool on the room temperature.

 Chocolate Ganaché Recipe:

Take a glass bowl and add chocolate chips and fresh cream in it. You can put this bowl into a microwave for 2-3 minutes to dissolve the chocolate or you can also use water bath to dissolve it. For water bath, boil some water in a deep pan. Place the glass bowl in the water. Keep stirring the cream and chocolate chips mixture until it is melted. Set it cool on the room temperature. Ganaché is ready for cake topping.

Death by Chocolate Cake Decoration:

Slice the Cake Sponge into 2 layers of equal thickness. Now moisten the cake halves with chocolaty milk to make them soft and spongy. Take chilled whipped cream (not frozen) and beat it until it becomes fluffy. Add cocoa powder into the whipped cream and mix well. You can also add ½ cup ganache into the whipped cream if you want to make it chocolatier and darker in color. Now apply whipped cream over one slice and make a bed of mix canned fruits over it. Now cover it with another half of cake sponge. Apply whipped cream on the cake sides. Level the cream with a knife.

Now pour the Ganache over the cake in a manner that it flows down from the cake sides and covers the whole cake. Put Chocolate balls and canned cherries on top. Refrigerate the cake for at least 15 minutes before serving. Death by chocolate cake with cherries on top is ready to serve. Enjoy with your family and friends.
