Fried Kaleji is a special dish of Eid-ul-Adha. After Qurbani, Muslims love to make this spicy fried kaleji (Liver). This dish has different recipes in countries worldwide. Some people just fry it on a tawa (skillet) and sprinkle some salt and pepper with a touch of lemon juice. Some people make “Katakat” that is a traditional spicy dish made up of all types of organs like heart, liver, kidneys and brain. This is usually prepared on a skillet and fried with a unique type of spoons that make a Katakat sound while frying. That’s why this dish is called Katakat.
Fried Kaleji is full of nutrients and it is very healthy to eat. It contains a high amount of protein, iron, vitamin B, vitamin B12 and Folic Acid in significant amounts. Vitamin A, Minerals, Zinc and Phosphorus are also present in balance amounts. It is said that if you drink juice of raw liver mixed with tomato juice then it can enhance your fresh blood quantity in seconds.

Fried Kaleji Ingredients:
Liver (cut in small cubes) 1 Kg
Onion Paste 1 cup
Garlic Paste 1 tbsp
Ginger Paste 1 tbsp
Salt To taste
Red Chili Powder 2 tsp
Turmeric Powder ¼ tsp
Coriander Powder 1 tsp
Tomato Paste 1 cup
Lemon Juice 1 tbsp
Oil as Required
Fresh Coriander (finely chopped) ¼ cup
Green Chili 5 – 6
Fresh Soya (finely chopped) ½ cup
Method:
Take a cooking pan and add liver pieces in it. Add oil, onion paste, garlic paste, ginger paste, salt, red chili powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, tomato paste, lemon juice in it. Mix it well and cook on a medium flame for at least 20 – 25 mins. Don’t cover the lid and don’t add the extra water. It will cook in its own water. When water becomes dry and oil separates from the gravy, add fresh soya, chopped fresh coriander and green chili into it. Fry it for 2-3 mins on high flame. Fried Liver (Kaleji) is ready to eat. Serve it with hot Nan or chapatti.
